3/4 cup margarine
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp water
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups white flour
2 tsp ground ginger
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp baking powder

- Cream margarine and sugar.
- Beat in egg, then water and molasses.
- Add dry ingredients.
- Shape dough into balls and then roll them in white sugar.
- Place them on a cookie sheet and flatten slightly with the palm of your hand.
- Bake at 350 F (180°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, depending how big you make the cookies. They shouldn't turn brown on the top or around the edges. If they are over-baked, they will be hard.
